Over the last few weeks, parents throughout the country are finding themselves in a situation they never could have imagined. The closure of schools and work is leading to changes in nearly all aspects of our lives. Parents are encountering new struggles financially, emotionally, spiritually, and even figuring out how to simply coordinate the day. For many, this includes having to balance, for the first time, being a parents, working, AND being a teacher all simultaneously. Then when you add to the mix children who are not getting to socialize normally and are limited in their own activities, the situation becomes even more complicated.
The goal of this support group is let you know that you are not alone in your struggles. We will be discussing topics that are focused on how to survive as a parent, as well as topics geared towards understanding children, how this impacts them, and what we can do to help them through this (and therefore, help ourselves as well). Our panel of mental health providers will include psychiatrists and psychologists who will provide a brief overview of topics for discussion. We will then open up to questions and discussion from the audience. Participation is optional. Video and audio can be turned off to maintain confidentiality if desired.
Please note that while our staff will be facilitating these groups, participation of our staff does not constitute the establishment of a therapeutic relationship with the group members. In our role as facilitators, we are not acting as psychiatrist or therapist to any of the individuals who chose to join any of the group sessions. We can provide useful educational information that draws on our training and expertise, but we will not be providing therapy or medical advice specific to anyone’s individual circumstances.
